THE RIVER NITH SOCIETY

PROGRAMME OF UPCOMING EVENTS

NB:CHANGE OF DATE FOR INSTALLATION OF THE EXHIBITION BOARDS:
I've just been informed that there is a delay for the installation of the boards along the Whitesands. Apparently the graphics will not be completed by the original date of April 16. Installation will now be Wednesday May 14 at noon at the Burns' Centre.

May 6:

Kirkconnel Parish Heritage Society has invited us on a short walk along the Mavisbank section of the Nith. It will be led by their Environmental Officer and will offer scenic views of our river and surrounding Kirkconnel Hills as well as looking at some of the wildlife found along this stretch.
Meet at 3pm at Kirkconnel Parish Heritage Society at 40a Main St.

June 6:
A choice of two walks by Cluden Water - a tributary of our river. The first is a one-hour circular two-mile walk. This may not be suitable for all members as it does include some high steps but it offers spectacular views. The second walk is a gentler
one shortened to 1~ miles past the Old Corn Mill, up the hill, turn right on to the Dunscore Road and return to the parking area. On both walks you see the plaque indicating the Twelve Apostles stone circle. Choose on the day which walk you prefer.
Meet at 2.30pm in parking area accessed by making a left turn at the Embassy Hotel sign off the Glasgow Road into Newbridge Village. Cross the old bridge and follow the old Glasgow Road with Toll House. There's plenty of car parking space on the left side of this cul-de-sac.

July 22:
A walk round the meadow at Caelaverock led by Brian Morrell, Learning Manager, to see the feeding of the swans at 2pm and hopefully catch a glimpse of ospreys.
Meet in the car park at 1.30pm.
Anyone wanting a lift or offering a lift to the above walks please contact me so that we can try to cut down on the number of cars.

Just a Reminder: Our new treasurer is Betty Jardine,  and subs are due on April 15 if you have not already paid.
